Rotate Claude API Keys in Doppler and n8n

This guide explains how to generate new Claude API keys on the Anthropic platform and replace active keys across integrated environments, specifically Doppler and n8n. Following these steps ensures service continuity across platforms while securing systems by decommissioning outdated credentials.

Scope

This procedure applies to technical administrators and developers responsible for maintaining credential security and secret management. It covers key generation within the Claude Platform, updating production environment variables in Doppler, replacing credentials in n8n, and disabling deprecated keys. Deploying service updates beyond secret updates is out of scope.

Rotate Claude API key in Doppler

Perform this procedure when rotating production credentials for the web portal. Completing these steps generates a new Claude API key and updates Doppler's production environment secrets.

Generate a new Claude API key

Navigate to platform.claude.com and sign in to access the Claude Console workspace.

Step #1: Click API keys in the left sidebar. — Click **API keys** in the left sidebar.

The API keys view displays currently archived keys as well as active keys such as the Sales Genius Portal key.

Step #2: Click + Create key. — Click **+ Create key**.

Step #3: Click Continue with an API key and enter SG Portal as the name. — Click **Continue with an API key** and enter `SG Portal` as the name.

Step #4: Click the Expires dropdown and select Never. — Click the **Expires** dropdown and select **Never**.

Step #5: Click the Scope dropdown and select > SG Portal. — Click the **Scope** dropdown and select **> SG Portal**.

Step #6: Click Create key. — Click **Create key**.

Step #7: Click Copy key to copy the generated API key to your clipboard. — Click **Copy key** to copy the generated API key to your clipboard.

Update the secret in Doppler

Step #1: In Doppler, navigate to Projects and click salesgenius - portal. — In Doppler, navigate to **Projects** and click **salesgenius - portal**.

Step #2: Click prd under the Production environment section. — Click **prd** under the Production environment section.

Step #3: Click the search secrets input field and search for Anthropic. — Click the search secrets input field and search for `Anthropic`.

Step #4: Click Click to reveal on the Anthropic key secret. — Click **Click to reveal** on the Anthropic key secret.

Perform this procedure to create an automated workspace key in Claude Console and update the Anthropic integration credentials in n8n.

Step #1: Click + Create key. — Click **+ Create key**.

Name the key according to its target service, such as SGNAN.

Step #3: Open the expiration dropdown and select Never. — Open the expiration dropdown and select **Never**.

Step #4: Open the scope dropdown and select SG Portal. — Open the scope dropdown and select **SG Portal**.

Step #5: Click Create key. — Click **Create key**.

Step #6: Click Copy key. — Click **Copy key**.

Step #7: Open n8n and click Credentials in the sidebar. — Open n8n and click **Credentials** in the sidebar.

Step #9: Click the Claude credential item to open its settings. — Click the **Claude** credential item to open its settings.

Step #10: Replace the existing token in the API Key field with the copied key and click Save. — Replace the existing token in the **API Key** field with the copied key and click **Save**.

Disable superseded Claude API keys

Perform this procedure after configuring the new API key in downstream services to deactivate old tokens. This leaves only the active, newly generated keys operational across your workspaces.

Step #1: Switch to the API keys tab in the Claude Console. — Switch to the **API keys** tab in the Claude Console.

Step #2: Click Done to close the key generation modal. — Click **Done** to close the key generation modal.

Step #3: Open the workspace selector dropdown and select All workspaces. — Open the workspace selector dropdown and select **All workspaces**.

Step #4: Click the options menu next to an old key and select Disable API key. — Click the options menu next to an old key and select **Disable API key**.
